Temporary Gmail Account: What Actually Works

TempMailHub guide cover: Temporary Gmail Account: What Actually Works

"Temporary Gmail account" means different things to different people. Some want a throwaway inbox for one sign-up. Others want a second real Google account they can delete later. The right answer depends on which one you mean.

Option 1: A Gmail-style temp address

This is a disposable address that looks like a normal Gmail address but is not tied to a Google account you log into. You read incoming mail in a web inbox.

TempMailHub offers three Gmail-style modes under Address options:

Good for: one-time codes, downloads, trials, and sites that reject unfamiliar domains. Limits: it only receives mail, it is not a Google account, and some sites block disposable addresses even when they look like Gmail.

You can try it on the temp Gmail address page.

Option 2: A second real Gmail account

If you need an actual Google account, for example to sign in to a service that only accepts Google login, you have to create one with Google. That is a separate process from any temp mail service.

Good for: accounts you will use for real, with sending and receiving. Limits: Google may ask for extra verification such as a phone number, you have another login to manage, and it is not anonymous. Delete it from your Google account settings when you are done.

Option 3: A plus alias on your own Gmail

Add a plus sign and a label to your username: yourname+shop@gmail.com. Mail goes to your normal inbox, and you can filter by the alias.

Good for: shops, subscriptions, and anything you might need to recover. Limits: your real address is visible in the alias, so it does not hide who you are. How aliases work is covered in a separate guide.

Quick comparison

Gmail-style temp address Second Gmail account Plus alias
Sign-up needed No Yes No (needs your Gmail)
Real Google account No Yes Yes (your own)
Hides your real address Yes Yes No
Can send mail No Yes Yes
Good for recovery No Yes Yes

Which one should you choose

If losing the inbox does not matter, use a temp address. If you need to log in with Google, make a real account. If it is a normal sign-up you might keep, use a plus alias. For more detail on the first and third, see temp mail vs Gmail alias.

Frequently asked questions

Is a temp Gmail address a real Google account?

Not on TempMailHub. A temp Gmail-style address looks like a Gmail address but is not an account you sign in to on Google.

Can I send email from a temp Gmail address?

No. A temp inbox is for receiving messages such as confirmations and codes.

Which option is best for a sign-up I might keep?

A plus alias on your own Gmail account, because mail reaches your real inbox and you can recover the account later.
